The finest of the Festival

It's really quite something that you can go from this

to this in just a few footsteps and if you are unaware of how, then I'd highly recommend a visit to the wonderful Pommery Champagne Bar at The Signet Library.

We were treated to the champagne afternoon tea with perfectly moreish sandwiches, lightly spiced scones with jam and cream, parfait, chocolate, petite carrot cakes and still more fruity sweet indulgences like bakewells and jellies. If you're not quite as greedy as us, staff will most helpfully bring you a box to takeaway. You cannot fail to be in awe of the beautiful interior and historic building, you are surrounded by towering shelves of ancient books (it's a working law library), beautiful pieces of furniture and awesome gilded ceilings and murals. It was completed in 1822 to a design by the esteemed architect Robert Reid.

Extensive menu

A little light reading

Seating, at the heart of the library.

Perfect sandwiches to start.

Chocolate delice and petite carrot cakes.

Parfait and the most delectable "bakewells" with white chocolate.

Strawberry cream scones.

A towering tea stand all for us!

 Butter, jam and cream.

 Tea pot selfie.

Look up!

A sneak peek at the Upper Library, all ready for an event.

Looking down.

 A champagne tower.

Enjoy.

Whether it's to recharge and refuel on the amazing selection of food including fine Scottish seafood or the signature Pommery burger, a quick stop pre or post show for a glass of champagne it's a charming and sophisticated place to escape the Festival rush whilst still being able to hear the cheering crowds and street performers through the window. There are also limited spaces left for the special Fringe events - Chocolates, Whiskies and Cocktails, Single Malt Sundays and maybe if you're very, very lucky, a seat for the Military Tattoo and Dinner Package.

Open daily from 12 noon until Monday 25th August. Don't miss it. You're in for a treat.
